How can you guys even care about whats cool and whats not, Thats not what metal is about. Your actually sounding alot like Grunge/Punks from their respective time periods. You have to accept that music gets popular, thats the way it is, and if you dont accept it you will end up trying to change your style because of it, thus in turn giving way to a different musical genre that you force yourself upon. True Metalheads have been listening to metal since the 80's they respect it all, and dont give a shit who listens to it. Lately my friend called me a poser for listening to black metal yet not knowing what he claims "its all about" but you know what, if you care what people think about you listening to music then you are a poser. If you dont care what people say and listen to music because you really like it thats all that matters. Basically what im trying to say is, if anyone mentions poser or anything, calls someone a poser or calls you a poser or whatever, just break off communications with them, their trendwhores. The trend is calling people posers because of what they listen to or what they pretend to listen to (to look cool).
Hope you guys enjoy my little rant, Just remember, Keep it real.
Fuck, now im a gangster, lol.

Is there an award for 'true' metalhead status? Or perhaps an application form? Man, lots of those 'true' metalheads out there were all little 'poser' kids at one point. We've all pointed our fingers and accused others of pretending to be something false(ahem....) but in truth, that's just something we learn to grow out of(hopefully). The trick to being a true music lover is sittin back and stickin to your guns, UNLESS someone attacks what you love and believe in.
Me personally, I only give a hard time to those people out there who can't stop downtalking everyone else out there because they know just enough to think they know it all. You know?... Those people who simply HAVE to share this knowledge in as condescending a way as they possibly can.
But then, that's okay. We are only as metal as our egos are big, yes? And we all want to be metal, right?
Right.

Ive been called a poser for so much as listening to Rush or not wearing denim jackets, trying to BE metal is nothing something I really do at all, I just buy the cds and merch from my favorite bands and ones that can use the money, when music and appreciation of it becomes a competition it can get really lame.

wow, long post. I don't believe in posers my self. I just think theres different kinds of metal heads that don't get along. like theres people who are into megadeth and metalica. and people who are into odd obscure grindcore and bm. there very different and they tend to call fellow metal heads posers.
Although, i think theres a difference between a metalhead and a person who listens to metal. A metalhead is more of a life style.

were not all a big happy family, there are assholes out there that need the shit beaten out of em'. or at least to be seen for what they are, OR we could just turn a blind eye and stay in ignorant bliss, i personally find it quite happy there, but its not for me

I hate how every genre has its own stereotypical look. For example, I hate how if someone has a mohawk, but doesnt listen to punk, they get called a poseur/poser, or the other way around.
And to the slayer/iron maiden comment... Slayer fans are really stubborn. I don't care if people like slayer, but there is no doubt about the fact that they have no idea what they are doing. I don't believe in insulting any specific genre, but I have no problem with saying a band sucks. If I get threatened/insulted for that, you will only prove my point.
